  • Ketamine-Assisted Therapy (KAT), also known as Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP), is a therapeutic approach that combines the administration of ketamine- a dissociative anesthetic with psychedelic properties- with psychotherapy to address various mental health conditions. Organizations like the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (https://maps.org) and the KRIYA Institute (https://www.kriyainstitute.com) have been instrumental in researching this modality. Research supported by MAPS and other institutions has demonstrated KAP's potential in treating conditions such as treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, anxiety disorders, and substance use disorders. For instance, studies have shown that KAP can lead to rapid reductions in depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation, offering hope for individuals who have not responded to traditional therapies. Other areas that have shown significant improvements with the use of KAP include, PTSD, social anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, addiction, and suicidality. 

    Ketamine has been found to induce altered states of consciousness, which can facilitate deep psychological exploration and emotional processing. In KAP, ketamine is administered in a controlled, clinical setting, often accompanied by preparatory and integrative psychotherapy sessions. This combination aims to maximize therapeutic outcomes by leveraging ketamine's rapid-acting antidepressant and neuroplasticity effects and the supportive framework of psychotherapy.
